Resveratrol is a powerful antioxidant found in red wine and is often associated with longevity and heart health. Many researchers recommend the intake of 1000 mg of resveratrol per day, but the question is - is it possible to get it only from wine?
How much Resveratrol is in red wine?
The amount of resveratrol in wine varies significantly depending on the grape variety, growing conditions and fermentation process. Average values are:
• 0.5 to 2 mg Resveratrol per liter of red wine
This means that one glass (150 ml) of red wine contains about 0.075 to 0.3 mg of resveratrol.
How much wine is needed for 1000 mg of Resveratrol?
If we take the upper limit of the average content of resveratrol in wine (2 mg/liter), to consume 1000 mg of resveratrol you would have to drink 500 liters of wine per day.
Even if we were to use a wine with an extremely high resveratrol content (10 mg/l, which is rare), it would still require 100 liters of wine per day – which is completely impossible.
Supplementation is the only option
Apart from the fact that drinking such quantities of wine would be deadly, it is also impractical. Boyla option is definitely a suitable supplement. Although a glass of good red wine is never out of place.
Although red wine contains resveratrol, the amount is too small to produce any effects. To ingest 1000 mg of Resveratrol per day, you would have to drink hundreds of liters of wine, which is totally absurd. Instead, the best choice is to take a Resveratrol supplement, which allows precise intake without negative effects e.g. alcohol.
